This ring was made around the turn of the 19th century. Its diamonds and three tiny rubies are set in platinum on a 18k gold ring with French essay marks. Floral patterns define the Art Nouveau period. A time in which highly decorative pieces were made. Especially in France and Belgium the Art Nouveau style dominated the arts, and thrived. In Paintings, architecture, ceramics and jewellery, a myriad of elements derived from nature, swirly plants and flower motives and the beauty of women was celebrated. It was a time of romanticism. Maybe as a counterweight to the epic times of industrialisation, artists allowed themselves to be inspired by all nature had to offer.
