In this Art Nouveau pendant-brooch the intermingling of styles is visible. It harbours elements of the Belle Epoque intermixed with pure Art Nouveau naturalism. Those style periods overlap, the Belle Epoque being more traditional and less lavish than the Art Nouveau. The Art Nouveau can be seen in the golden tulip, with its leaves interweaving the diamond frame beneath it. The frame itself is Belle Epoque in style. It is a period defined between two great wars: it began after the Franco-Pruissian war ended, in 1871 and ended somewhere around the beginning of the First World War, in 1914. The period between those two great wars was a period where people feasted on life. The war had finally ended and most were not yet aware of what was to come: an even more devastating war.

This brooch therefore represents hope: for a better life, a life of peace and prosperity.

Dangling beneath the main frame of the brooch is a diamond, old cut of approx 0.1 ct. Right above it is another one mounted, a rose-cut this time.

The rest of the brooch is set with approximately 68 rose-cut diamonds, varying in size.
