This gold Art Nouveau necklace has all the hallmarks of a typical turn of the century piece. It is naturalist in style, with elegant flowery shapes and forms. The larger centerpiece and two side pieces are decorated with Hydrangeas flowers and leaves. Hydrangea, the name of the flower is derived from the Greek Hydros, which means water and angos, meaning vessel. Possibly this was because of the plants' seed-like shape.

In the symbolism of plants, the Hydrangea means deep understanding, togetherness and sincerity.

This kind of Art Nouveau necklace has a length to be worn slightly below the neckline, which was customary at the time.  It is a finely decorated 18 carat necklace, with French essay marks.
