This Art Nouveau 18k pendant is decorated with three tiny seed pearls and a beautiful small cabochon sapphire. It is a perfect example of a true Art Nouveau style hanger. With its mistletoe leafs
caught in an organic, plant like swirled frame and its little pearl dangling from beneath, it embodies shapes, forms and material, typical for the turn of the century jewellery, also known as the Art Nouveau period. Why do people kiss underneath the mistletoe during the Christmas season? We don’t exactly know. But the mistletoe itself bears symbolic and spiritual meaning long before celebrating Christmas with gifts and kisses became a tradition. It was thought to have healing powers during Greek and Roman times and the Celtic Druids saw it as a symbol for vitality and fertility. And there may be a connection there, after all, the Christmas tree also came from them and was nowhere to be found, where the Christ child was born. In any case…Want to kiss someone? It may not be a bad idea to give them a mistletoe.
