These earrings date back to the 18th century. At the center of the earrings are table cut emerald stones, most likely Colombian. For the longest time, up to the early twentieth century and even some times to this day, traditional Spanish jewellery was produced in certain forms, for certain regions. These earrings are an example of the craft.

Spain has a grand tradition for jewellery and to this day people wear traditional garb and wear traditional jewellery during festivities. To have traditional gold antique jewellery like these earrings, is considered a prize.

The teardrop shaped dangler is surrounded by eight emeralds in either earring. The top part has one central stone, and is equally surrounded by eight emeralds. Above it is crowned with swirls and a central table cut emerald. At the bottom the swirls reappear, again with one small emerald in its center.

At the back you may see two tiny holes in the top, and in the bottom part. That is because they were filled with wax, to enforce the delicate round shapes.
