This is an ancient Egyptian faience amulet, in the shape of a cowrie shell, hence the name cowroid seal. It was most likely found accompanying a female mummy. The cowroid amulet was worn by women during pregnancy for protection or for fertility. In this case, as a gift in a tomb, it was possibly meant for childbearing in the afterlife. It is captured in a  14k gold hanger. The cowroid amulet is pierced on both sides, so it could be worn on a girdle or chain, for protection. In the hieroglyphs at the back there are symbols of papyrus leaves and a lotus. The meaning of the papyrus is resilience and adaptability and the lotus symbolises hope and triumph in life over adversity.
